What is hooping?

What is hooping?
“Hooping” is just a shortened form of the words hula hooping. However, there is a difference between hooping and regular hula hooping that everyone remembers as a child. Hooping is hula hooping with much larger and custom made hoops.  Since the hoops are custom made they are supposed to be able to be used by anyone! Many people think that they cannot hula hoop because they couldn’t when they were younger or they are just too old now. This should not be a worry however because with these custom made hoops they are supposed to be much larger and heavier, therefore so easy to do anyone can do it. Hula hooping used to be something of the past that everyone (including my grandparents) did when they were young children as a pass time with the small and very light hula hoops that made a rattling or shaking noise when they moved around. More recently hula hooping has started to make its way back into peoples’ lives as a form of dance or just a fun hobby and even an exercise. Today’s hooping is also different from the old style hula hooping because today hooping is almost always associated with music. Hooping has been something people have recently started doing to music at music festivals and even raves. Another benefit of these custom made hoops used for today’s hooping is that since they are much larger it makes it easier to pick it up while hula hooping and learn to do tricks. These large custom hoops can move very slowly around your body but you can also hula hoop fast with them if you want. Another benefit of the hoops being so large in diameter is like mentioned earlier it is easier to hoop with but it is also easier to hoop around any part of your body! It is easy to hula hoop around your waist, your legs, knees, neck, chest and even your elbows! Another reason I really like and prefer hooping is that it is something you can make your own and you can hoop around to whatever music you want. Everyone has a different “style” of hooping, some people prefer to hoop fast while other prefer a slower pace and this greatly depends on what type of music they are listening to.  Many people also believe that there are many great health benefits from hooping. Some people use hooping as almost a meditative way to calm down and relax. Some people also believe that it is an actual exercise and you can tone your stomach and core by just doing a little hooping every day.

This is a video that I had actually never seen before today but I really like it because it shows a different aspect of hooping. This is an older lady (who is actually really good) showing her own style of hooping and she incorporated the tango moves into her hula hooping.

This video relates to the above journal post because as I talked about, different people have their own styles of hooping and everyone’s is different somehow. Also I talked about the hoops being large enough for anyone to hoop. This lady in the video isn’t a kid, she’s a little bit older but she is still able to use the hoop and is awesome at it.

This is another you tube video of someone hooping; and it’s probably my favorite because I really like her style of hooping.  Even though it doesn’t have the best sound and picture quality you can clearly see that it’s something that this girl really enjoys and spends a lot of time practicing.

This video relates to the journal post because it is another video that represents how many different styles of hooping there is. This girl in the video clearly has a different style than the girl in the above video. This girl uses a different genre of music and has a faster pace with a smaller hoop.

This is a website that really gives a great description of what hula hooping is and really goes into detail on how hula hooping started a long time ago and how it was brought back into today’s society. This is a great website because it teaches to everyone about the different types of hula hooping rather than focusing on one style of hooping or one age group.

This website is relative because it shows a lot of great information for people who are just beginning to hula hoop or even to people who are just curious as to what it is. I liked this website because it did not focus on one particular age group or one style of hooping, it was useful information for anyone interested in hooping.
